Are you allowed to use artificial intelligence in your student work?

With language models, artificial intelligence and all the possibilities they bring, there are also many new choices to make as a student. It can seem hard to get an overview of. That is why UiA has made an overview of some of the questions you should ask yourself before you use artificial intelligence in your assignment as a student here.

Remember that just because you may be ”allowed” to use artificial intelligence in your assignment, that does not mean it is smart.

The first assessments you should make are whether you are actually allowed to use artificial intelligence.

We have therefore made an interactive flow chart to help students with these assessments.

Purpose

Different universities have made different choices about how much students are allowed to use artificial intelligence in work they have to submit for assessment. Our university permits the use of artificial intelligence under certain rules.

This interactive flow chart is intended to help students work out for themselves what they are allowed to do.

Hand out to students

The flow chart should be self-explanatory, so that students can access it without further guidance. In order not to overwhelm the students, they only get access to one of the questions in the flow chart at a time.

For use in guidance situations

It can also be useful to go through the chart together with some students. This can be done digitally, or with a printout of the poster version of the flow chart.
